New Orleans History - Lake Pontchartrain A treasure trove of information about Lake Pontchartrain and its history decade by decade. This project was started by Catherine Campanella, author of Lake Pontchartrain, for her students at St. Philip Neri in 2000. LOUISiana Digital Library Aerial of Camp Leroy Johnson in the 1960s. Louisiana Histories and Source Documents links to John Smith Kendall's "History of New Orleans," a scholarly work published in 1922. Port Pontchartrain Lighthouse from the Lighthouse Digest's "Louisiana Port Pontchartrain Lighthouse Has Seen It All." There is a list of Louisiana Lighthouses on UNC's Lighthouse Directory web. LighthouseFriends.com has many more photos of the Port Pontchartrain Lighthouse. WPA Photographs - Lakefront. This WPA photo shows runways under construction at the Lakefront. The Louisiana Division of the New Orleans Public Library has an impressive online collection of WPA photos. Subjects include Spanish Fort, the amusement parks, the levees and many wonderful old photos showing development along the lakefront.
